Job Overview
The Webmaster Assistant & Lead Developer is a full-stack developer with deep expertise in systems architecture, plugin and code development, databases, and server management. This role combines hands-on webmaster responsibilities with strategic technical leadership—ensuring CrossExamined’s digital infrastructure is optimized, scalable, and reliable. The position balances day-to-day content management and site maintenance with leading major development initiatives that support the ministry’s long-term growth and technical sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Webmaster Operations
- Ensure website optimization and performance across all CrossExamined sites.
- Handle content uploads and publishing across all digital properties.
- Follow established SEO and formatting standards during content publishing.
- Maintain consistent metadata, taxonomy, and internal linking structure.
- Perform quality checks to ensure all published content meets technical and brand standards.
2. Development and Systems Leadership
- Build, manage, and maintain large-scale websites and applications within the CrossExamined ecosystem.
- Lead the development of custom plugins and backend systems that support ministry operations.
- Design and implement structured, scalable solutions for complex technical projects.
- Ensure reliability, scalability, and long-term sustainability of all web platforms and digital infrastructure.
3. Server and Infrastructure Management
- Oversee server management, performance monitoring, and system stability.
- Implement and maintain security protocols and backup systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to hosting, databases, and server architecture.
- Coordinate plugin and code deployment following established protocols.
4. Process Development and Documentation
- Help develop and refine SOPs related to server management, plugin deployment, and code standards.
- Document technical workflows, system architecture, and development processes.
- Establish best practices for website performance, stability, and maintenance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of team workflows and technical standards.
5. Technical Support and Collaboration
- Provide triage support for complex technical issues that require advanced expertise.
- Work closely with the Web Team to ensure smooth coordination between development and operations.
- Offer technical guidance and mentorship to team members as needed.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure web systems support content distribution, events, and ministry initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- 5+ years of experience in full-stack web development, with proven expertise in large-scale web applications.
- Strong proficiency in modern web technologies, frameworks, and content management systems (WordPress, PHP, JavaScript, databases, etc.).
- Deep knowledge of server management, hosting environments, and system architecture.
- Experience building custom plugins, APIs, and backend systems.
- Proven ability to balance strategic development work with operational responsibilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Experience working in remote, collaborative team environments.
